5 Things Collecting Blind Boxes Taught Me About Life
Jennifer NguyenShare
There’s a special kind of magic in blind boxes. You pick one, your heart thumps, and for a second the whole world is just crinkly foil and possibility. I started collecting for the joy and the community—but along the way, these little surprises taught me some big lessons I carry into business, creativity, and healing. Here are five.
1) You can’t control the pull—only your pick.
With blind boxes, you never know what you’ll get. That used to frustrate me; now it frees me. Life is full of unknowns: timing, opportunities, other people’s choices. What you can control is your selection and your intention—doing the research, setting a budget, choosing thoughtfully, and then trusting the process. I remind myself of this any time I launch a new idea: make the best pick with the info I have, and let the reveal be what it is.
Takeaway: Focus on the inputs (your effort, values, boundaries). Release the outcome.
2) Duplicates aren’t failures—they’re trades waiting to happen.
Every collector has pulled a duplicate and sighed. But duplicates taught me collaboration. In the community, “dupes” become instant icebreakers: trade lists, DMs, new friendships. I’ve seen the same energy in business—what feels like a repeat or a detour can be an opportunity to connect, barter, or pivot.
Takeaway: When something looks redundant, ask: Who could this help? Your “extra” might be someone else’s grail.
3) Chase pieces are exciting—but core sets build the story.
We all love a chase, but the soul of a collection is the set: the characters that make the world make sense. That’s true for life too. Big wins are fun, but daily habits—posting consistently, showing up for your community, managing your finances—are what shape your bigger narrative.
Takeaway: Celebrate the chases, but commit to the basics. Consistency is the real limited edition.
4) The reveal is fun; the curation is power.
Opening is a high; curating is an art. Learning to style shelves, photograph pieces, and let certain items go has made me braver in other areas. I’m more decisive about my wardrobe, my brand colors, my product selection, and my time. Editing isn’t losing—editing is designing your life.
Takeaway: Keep what sparks a clear yes. Rehome the rest. Create space for the next reveal.
5) Community is the best part of any collection.
The chat during Lives, the trade boards, the DMs after a great pull—this community made me feel seen. Collecting reminded me that joy grows when it’s shared. As I transition RockWithJenny from just a shop into more of my story (journals, art, music, healing), I want to bring that same spirit with me: cozy, kind, and a little chaotic in the best way.
Takeaway: Let people in. When you build with community, you build something that lasts.
How this shapes where I’m going next
I’m still your girl for cute plush pendants and blind-box finds—but you’ll also see more behind-the-scenes: the systems I use to run my shop, what I’m learning about money and mindset, and snippets from my handwritten journals. Think of it like expanding the set: same universe, more characters.
Want to play along?
- Shop new arrivals: plush pendants, blind boxes, and accessories (browse the “New” and “Plush Pendant” categories).
- Trade vibes: comment your ISO/dupes and I’ll highlight community trade threads in future posts.

If blind boxes taught me anything, it’s that wonder is worth the risk. Thanks for opening this next chapter with me—foil, crinkles, and all. 💖
